Dev Blog: Under Construction

The time has come in the development phase of the new SA Rally site to put up the 'Under Construction' sign. Display problems in Internet Explorer were one of the key reasons, and as a result we now have the skin you see before you. Please note this is not the final skin, this is all temporary. Unfortunately I am at present the only one working on the site, and 20-30 hours a week on top of full time work is not enough to develop the site quickly enough. Work is continuing, and will be completed as soon as I can, hopefully within 2 weeks. This is not ideal, but circumstances have forced it.

Dev Blog: Upgrade Step One

After many months planning, we are now slowly progressing with the rollout of the 2009 update of the site. Last night the first step was taken, which basically involved upgrading the site core, and all additional modules, and adding in a couple of new ones we hope will enhance your experience this year. Unfortunately in the process somehow it has made the menu display incorrectly in every version of Internet Explorer we can find. We have been unable to find an easy fix for this, and considering we're already working on a new theme for 2009, we will be unlikely to fix this.

Dev Blog: Bringing Live Coverage to SA Rallying

At the recent ASP Adelaide Hills Tarmac Sprint, the SA Rally team decided to try something that we don't believe has ever been done before: quasi-live video coverage of a South Australian Rally Championship event.

Dev Blog: The Fight Against Spam

As more and more traffic is attracted to SA Rally, and more and more visitors hit the site, spam has become a bigger issue.

For some time now we have dealt with this in relatively simple ways:
- Akismet moderation
- CAPTCHA verification
- Participation in Project Honeypot

All of these required manual intervention of some form. And yet the spam kept coming.
