Glenney upstages Lamborghinis at Targa opening

Local hope, Steve Glenney, driving a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, has upstaged his more fancied rivals by setting the fastest time at the prologue stage at Supaloc Targa Adelaide.

He will now take the top seeding into the four-day event that now heads to the surrounding hills before finishing back in the city on Sunday afternoon.

Glenney beat the Lamborghini Gallardo of fellow South Australian, Kevin Weeks, by 2.8 seconds around the 3.25 kilometre course, with another Lamborghini, driven by reigning Australian Champion Jason White, back in third, a further 2.3 seconds back.

The new season of the CAMS Australian Targa Championship will be kick started with a new stage under lights at the Adelaide Showgrounds on Wednesday, August 22.

Supaloc Targa Adelaide will bring night time car racing to the heart of city, allowing motorsport fans to see a spectacular show of modern and classic cars on a technically challenging three kilometre stage.

Supaloc Targa Adelaide will introduce some exciting changes in 2012, with the inclusion of modern cars to compete along with the classics and an innovative night stage, among the highlights.

Details of the night stage, where people will be able to watch millions of dollars of many of the world’s finest cars compete side by side at an inner city venue, will be announced at a media opportunity on Wednesday May 23 at 12.30 at the Adelaide Event and Exhibition Centre.
