Yesterday CAMS announced the establishment of the Australian Modern Tarmac Rally Championship, following on from the success of the Australian Classic Tarmac Rally Championship in 2009. The 2010 Application Service Provider (asp) / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally will be round of both the 2010 Modern and Classic Tarmac Rally Championships, joining Rally Tasmania, Targa West and Classic Adelaide as the other three rounds of both championships.

Michael Clements, Clerk of Course for the AHTR, says the addition of the new Modern Championship to the existing classes is a great way for competitors with a limited budget to be competitive at a National Level. With restrictions on vehicle modifications and the need to use pump fuel, it allows competitors with vehicles from 1982 onwards the ability to compete against each other on a level playing field. Exotic cars valued over $140,000 will compete in their own class, giving the more affordable cars like Subaru WRX and EVO Lancers the opportunity to battle it out, with their class points also counting towards the outright championship awards. Both the Modern and Classic Championships offer nine Age Category Championship Awards, so drivers (and vehicles) of all ages have the chance to gain national CAMS recognition.

This year’s Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally will be extended to 2 ½ days with a prologue to seed competitors and the first 2 stages being run at Mallala Raceway on the afternoon of Friday the 21st of May prior to the 20 stages being run on the Fleurieu Peninsula over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd May.

The Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally will be one of the must see events on the 2010 South Australian motorsport calendar and both Cut Price Truck Rentals and asp are proud to be able to support the organising team.
