New Prologue Venue for Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally

The Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally has a new venue for the prologue for this year's event, which will now start from the renowned Collingrove Hillclimb Track. Mallala Motorsport Park, the 2010 prologue venue, was offered an alternate event spanning the 27th - 29th May 2011, necessitating a change of prologue venue for AHTR. Organisers would like to thank the Sporting Car Club of SA for allowing the use of the Collingrove Hillclimb venue. Collingrove is situated south of Angaston on the road from Mt Pleasant approximately 80km North East of Adelaide.

The 2011 Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally presents 28 stages over 3 days providing a competitive distance of just over 190km. Friday will start with the prologue at Collingrove and 6 stages between Collingrove and Penny's Hill Winery at McLaren Vale through the magnificent Adelaide Hills. Saturday's 12 stages will run South of McLaren Vale down to Victor Harbor, South Australia's holiday capital. Another 10 stages on Sunday North West of McLaren Vale will travel through the picturesque towns of Meadows, Macclesfield and Strathalbyn before returning to McLaren Vale to finish the event at Penny's Hill Winery.

In a first for the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally, the 2011 event will feature the Thoroughbred Challenge. The Thoroughbred Challenge competitors will compete on the same roads as the main field while averaging 90km/h without exceeding 130km/h. The aim is to be as close to the target time as possible, and may seem easy enough but will be quite difficult on some stages. Competitors will be awarded 1 point per second over the target time, but 10 points per second under the target time for exceeding the set average speed, with additional penalties for hitting chicanes. The competitor with the least points will win the Thoroughbred Challenge. Competitors can compete on a Level 2 Speed licence and in a non roll caged car.
