Young guns snapping at the heels of dual SA Rally champion in the series finale!

Matt Selley looking for an SARC hat trick

The South Australian Rally Championship winds up on Sunday October 4th, with the “2009 Wirrabara Forrest Rally”. Wirrabara is an easy three hour drive from Adelaide and is the gateway to one of the Southern Flinders best keeps secrets. The Wirrabara Forest Rally has not run for 6 years, and the organising committee is excited to revive the once favourite event. The event will be run almost unchanged from its 2001 appearance on the SA Championship calendar. 22 crews will be fighting for 50% bonus points for the final round of the season, making the results difficult to predict.

Reigning dual South Australian rally champion driver Matthew Selley and Claire Ryan (co-driver) head into the Wirrabara Forrest rally with an almost unassailable championship points lead over second placed driver James Rodda. Selley is chasing a championship hat trick. 19 year old Rodda with co-driver Marcus Piristi, requires nothing short of an outright win in the event to have a shot at the title and even that won’t topple Selley and Ryan provided they finish 8th or higher. Experienced and exciting campaigners, Gary Brown and Mike Dale, in their aged but lightning quick VR4 will be determined to win the event.

Talented newcomer, 26 year old, Sandy Nott will be competing in his Mitsubishi Evo 4. Currently placed 3rd in the championship, Sandy and Charlie Nott will be hoping to continue their consistent run this year and finish on the podium.

In the two wheel drive category, Jason Sims takes a 6 point lead over Dave Hall into the final championship round. Hall will be hard to beat in his powerful Datsun 260z, meaning that Sims will be pushing the Datsun 180B to the limit in at attempt to take out his first two wheel drive championship. The course will be tight and twisty through natives and pines. With the recent wet weather, the crews can expect a mix of conditions to tackle, which could catch out the unwary.

Viewing locations
There will be two spectator locations. (Airstrip and Watts Mallee), both of these stages will be run twice. For more information please see race control upon arrival or go to www.sarally.com.au.

The event will start at the Wirrabara Oval at 10:00am and finish approx 5:00pm.
