Navigator Wanted

Hi everyone, My name is Scott, and I am looking at doing the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally in 2012, At the moment I am about to turn 16 and get my learners permit in October. I have been racing for 4 years in different events like HillClimbs, sprints motorkhanas, etc. So I am looking for an unpaid navigator who just wants to have a little bit of fun and enjoy the weekend, not for a big team so there is nothing riding on the competition, only a small family team. Because I am going to be rallying on my Learners I obviously need someone with their Full license and has had 5 years of navigating experience.
The car you will be in is a 1986 Honda Civic, pretty quick car, but not a front runner, if your interested would love to have a chat.
So anyone with their license and had 5 years rally experience who doesn't want to be really competitive just have a fun weekend of rallying, feel free to call or text me on 0413 246 018 or email me on [email protected], its still 8 months away so plenty of time to sort things out.
Thanks :D

Hi Scott, unfortunately there

Hi Scott,

unfortunately there are a few things to consider to compete in a special stage rally on your learners permit. Generally ARCOM (Australian Rallying Commission) and the South Australian Rally Panel (SARP - organises and runs south Australian rallying) require drivers to hold a minimum of a provisional licence. You are able to apply for an exemption to this, by applying in writing to SARP requesting that you are issued with an exemption, this will be conditional on a number of things, including like as you mentioned having a highly experienced co-driver with who has a unconditional full licence.

Your application would also want to cover things like:

-Your competition history and experience - including what events you have contested when and where, results etc. This would include events like Motorkhana, Khanacross, Autocross etc, being its a tarmac event you wish to enter at first any tarmac experience would also be useful
- your road driving experience, ie number of hours driving on learners permit, hours with a driving instructor etc
- details of any training you have undertaken (ie SDCC's JDP program)
- details of the car you will be driving, things like who it was built by, roll cage details and other safety equipment, along with details of modifications etc
- letters of reference (from people like club presidents, CoC's of previous events you have entered etc, and membership details of your club
- details of your co-driver

There may also be other details that are requested, it is quite an involved process, so its suggested the earlier you start on the application process the better. While exemptions have been granted in the past, they also can be declined, in which case you will probably just need to gain more experience in lower level events. Doing events like Rallysprints at walky park (wacc.asn.au) are a really good option to gain experience at higher average speed events, after all the difference between doing a motorkhana and competing on very fast stages at the AHTR are massive.

I encourage you to contact SARP by emailing [email protected] if you have any further questions, or even better head along to your local club meeting.

Cheers
Lewis
