Entries now open for the 2011 Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally

Entries into the 2011 asp Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally have officially opened. Registrations of Interest for the event began two weeks after the hugely successful 2010 event, and to date more than 60 teams have contacted organisers regarding entry to the 2011 rally, to be run on the 27th to the 29th of May.

As a round of the Australian Classic and Australian Modern Tarmac Rally Championship, the 2011 asp Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally will attract an even larger number of interstate competitors than ever before. Joining them to fight for the title of South Australian Tarmac Rally Champion will be a host of local teams who have supported the event over the last 5 years, plus there will be the stalwarts of the South Australian Rally Championship fighting it out for 1st round honours; in all four CAMS championships – two state and two national – the asp Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally plays a vitally important role in Australian rallying.

This year, in a first for the AHTR, the 2011 event will feature the inaugural Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally Thoroughbred Challenge. Competitors in this new category will negotiate the same roads as the rest of the field, having to average 90km/h on the stages without exceeding 130km/h. The aim of the Thoroughbred Challenge is to be as close to the target time as possible, something that may seem easy enough to do on paper, but will be quite difficult to achieve on the actual stages. Competitors will be “awarded” 1 point per second over the target time. However competitors will be given 10 points for every second that they are under the target time as this will show that they have exceeded the set average speed, with bonus of having additional penalties applied for any chicanes they may hit. The competitor with the least accrued points for the event will win the Thoroughbred Challenge. Competitors are able can compete on a CAMS Level 2 Speed licence and in a non-roll-caged car.

This year’s event will be 3 full days, including the Prologue at Collingrove and five stages skirting the sides of the picturesque Adelaide Hills on the Friday, looping back to Parc Fermé at Penny’s Hill Winery in McLaren Vale. Saturday and Sunday competition will concentrate on the Fleurieu Peninsula, with some of the most challenging and exciting competitive stages that we have ever had. The event will be televised nationally as part of the Australian Classic and Australian Modern Tarmac Rally Championships on OneHD as part of the commitment that OneHD has made in 2011 to provide a spectacular coverage of the various events in the Australian Rally landscape.

The 2011 asp Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally, heralded as a great event and getting bigger and better, is still excellent value. The $1,990.00 entry fee includes approximately 190 kilometres of competitive stages. It will also include the very popular informal Saturday night BBQ that brings officials and competitors together, proudly brought to you all by the teams of Variety SA Bash and the sumptuous presentation dinner held on the Sunday evening in the Penny’s Hill multi-award winning restaurant, The Kitchen Door.
