Steven Richards to drive IYK 000 at the Alpine

Ford V8 Supercar driver Steven Richards has today confirmed he will drive the famous ex works Ford Motorsport Escort RS1800 “IYK 000” at the Yokohama Alpine Rally Media Day.

In announcing the drive today Richards said that he was both excited and humbled to get the chance to drive such a unique and famous car. “This is an opportunity most drivers would jump at and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s also a great opportunity to acknowledge Ford Australia’s long and distinguished history in Australian motorsport” said Richards.

The Yokohama Alpine gets bigger and better every event and this year is no exception running a full field of 120 of Australia’s best Classic Rally Cars and crews.

For those people not lucky enough to make it to East Gippsland for the Yokohama Alpine you will now be able to watch it live on the Internet thanks to Pure Motorsport. There will be some live coverage and lots of in-car video available for download across the whole weekend. Ryan Jones from Pure Motorsport said he was excited about the opportunity to cover Australia’s premier classic rally. 2009 Alpine Rally places filling up quickly

Expressions of Interest forms for the 2009 Alpine Rally are available for download from the website. Organisers have already received more than 70 EOI’s from competitors around Australia and expect that number to rise to 200.

The weekend of November 13, 14 & 15 will see Lakes Entrance play host to 100 of the best Classic and 2 wheel drive rally cars and crews in Australia and New Zealand competing over some of the best rally roads this country has to offer. There will be 350 km of competitive stages once again including the awesome 35km bitumen stage from Orbost to Buchan.
